Location of the temperature sensor on the 3F-E engine
1. Wiper motor; 2. Brake fluid level sensor; 3. Headlight cleaner motor; 4. Fluid temperature sensors; 5. Oil pressure sensor
Location of the temperature sensor on the 1FZ-FE engine
1. Brake fluid level sensor; 2. Relay block; 3. Fluid temperature sensor; 4. Oil pressure sensor
Examination
1. If the gauge does not register temperature, then check the fuses.
2. If the sensor shows a status "Hot" ("hot") immediately after starting a cold engine, disconnect the wire from the sensor.
3. If the reading drops, replace the sensor.
4. If the reading remains high, then the reasons may be a short to ground in the sensor wire, or a malfunction of the pointer. On the 3F-E engine, the sensor is located under the thermostat.
5. If the sensor stops showing temperature after the engine is fully warmed up (about 10 minutes after starting), and the fuses are good, proceed as follows.
6. Stop the engine, disconnect the wire from the sensor and connect the sensor wire to a well-cleaned area of the engine with a piece of wire.
7. Switch on the ignition for a short time but do not start the engine.
8. If the pointer now shows "Hot", then replace the sensor.
9. If there is no sensor reading, then the cause may be an open circuit, or a sensor malfunction (see subsection 11.1).
Replacement
1. Disconnect the wire from the sensor.
2. Unscrew the sensor and screw in the new one, tighten securely. Do not use sealant.
3. Connect the wire.
4. Fill with liquid, check the sensor readings.
