Warning! The car models covered in this manual are equipped with an additional security system (SRS). Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see Section Airbags - general information). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
Examination
Location of turn signal/alarm breaker
The turn signal/alarm breaker is fixed under the lower left section of the instrument panel trim (refer to illustration above).
The correct functioning of the interrupter is confirmed by a distinctly audible rhythmic click. If one of the indicators fails, the frequency of the interrupter doubles, informing the driver to replace the failed lamp / lamps.
The simultaneous failure of both indicators with a high degree of probability indicates the failure of the corresponding fuse in the internal mounting block. The possibility of failure of the breaker itself, or the steering column switch, is also not ruled out. Check up a condition of contact connections of electroconducting of a corresponding circuit. If a fuse is knocked out, check the wiring for signs of a short circuit, refer to the wiring diagrams (see Section Wiring diagrams - general information).
Replacement
Breaker
1. Remove the lower left section of the instrument panel trim (see chapter Body) and disconnect the electrical wiring from the breaker assembly and remove the breaker.
2. Make sure that the replacement breaker is of the same size as the failed one.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Hazard switch
Prying, release the switch assembly from the instrument panel, disconnect the electrical wiring from the switch.
