A faulty injector can be found in another way: to give successively, one after another, the union nuts of the fuel lines. If the engine speed increases when the nut is loosened, this indicates that the injector is working. If the number of revolutions does not increase, this indicates a malfunction of the injector.
The injector can also be checked with a pressure gauge (work of a specialized workshop. The injection pressure should be 125-138 bar).
Signs of a bad injector are:
- No self-ignition.
- Knocking in one or more cylinders.
- Engine overheating.
- Loss of engine power.
- Exhaust smoke.
- High fuel consumption.
Removing
Flush the fuel supply and return pipelines with cleaner or diesel fuel.
Remove the high pressure fuel lines. To do this, release the union nuts on the pump and injectors.
Attention: Do not change the shape of the pipelines.
Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel return line, loosen the locknuts and remove the gaskets and the fuel return line.
Remove the injectors with a special key SST 09268-64010 and arrange them in the order in which they were installed.
Remove the rings and gaskets from the holes for the nozzles.
Clamp the nozzle in a vise with soft jaws and disassemble it.
Check the nozzle needle for damage where it contacts the nozzle. Clean the sprayer from carbon deposits.
Attention: Do not file or sandpaper the nozzle or needle under any circumstances. Do not interchange the parts of the injectors.
Installation
Install new gaskets and rings under the injectors.
Install injectors with holders and tighten with special tool SST-09268-64010 to 65 Nm.
Attention: Tightening the nozzle holder when tightening can lead to deformation of the nozzle and, as a result, to hanging of the needle.
Connect fuel return line with new gaskets and tighten nuts to 30 Nm.
Connect high pressure fuel lines. Tighten union nuts to 30 Nm.
Slightly loosen the union nuts on the nozzle holders.
Turn the engine over with the starter until fuel appears in the area of the union nuts. Tighten the cap nuts to the specified torque.
