- Inspection pit or hydraulic jack with stands.
- Special tool for opening the oil filter (filter pliers, strap wrench or HAZET-2172).
- Wrench for unscrewing the oil drain plug and a container for collecting oil, with a volume of at least 6 liters.
The following wear parts are required:
- If oil is not being sucked out: copper seal for oil drain plug (sometimes given in combination with an oil filter).
- filter element.
- Depending on the engine, 3-5.5 liters of engine oil. Use only oil approved by TOYOTA.
Amount of oil to be changed
The oil level must be between the L and F marks on the dipstick (see fig.).
Oil change should be done every 10,000 km (diesel every 7500 km).
If the car is rarely used, change the oil once a year. At the same time, at the same time the filter element is being replaced.
Under severe operating conditions, such as frequent urban driving, frequent cold starts and dusty roads, the oil and filter should be changed more frequently.
Engine oil can be sucked out using a special device at a petrol station through the holes to measure the oil levels.
Draining engine oil
Start and warm up the engine to operating temperature (oil temperature +60°С). To do this, you need to drive a car for 10-15 km.
Caution: Engine oil can be sucked out with an enema.
Raise the car on a lift.
Place a container under the oil pan to collect the oil.
Unscrew the drain plug and drain the completely old oil.
Attention: If chips or sawdust are found in the drained oil, this indicates the presence of mechanical damage in the engine, for example, in the crankshaft bearing and connecting rods.
After repairing the engine, it is necessary to clean all oil channels.
Open the oil filter. The filter is located, looking in the direction of the car, in front of the cylinder block (diesel behind the cylinder block). To open the oil filter, there are special tools such as HAZET-2172. You can insert a sharp screwdriver on the side of the filter and turn it out with it. Place a container under the leaking oil.
Oil filling
Install the drain plug with a new gasket and tighten it. Tightening torque: for engines with a working volume of 1.3 liters up to 7/84 of release and an engine with a working volume of 1.6 liters - 3 Nm; for engines working with a volume of 1.3 liters from 8/84 of release - 25 Nm; for diesel engines - 40 Nm.
Flush the filter flange adjacent to the cylinder block with fuel. Clean off the remnants of the gasket.
Lightly oil the O-ring on the new oil filter.
Screw in the oil filter by hand. After the sealing ring is in contact with the cylinder block, turn the filter a further half turn.
Attention: It is allowed to install only an oil filter designed for this car model.
Fill in new oil through the oil filler neck in the cylinder head cover. After filling, check the oil level.
Attention: It is recommended to add 0.5 l less oil first. Start the engine, warm it up and after a few minutes check the oil level. Add oil if necessary. Excess oil must be sucked off. Otherwise, the catalyst may be damaged.
After a test drive, check the tightness of the drain plug and oil filter. Pull if necessary.
Stop a warm engine and after two minutes sleep check the oil level.
To better control the condition of the engine, it is necessary to use the same type of oil.
It is recommended that when changing the oil, attach a plate to the engine indicating the brand of oil and its viscosity.
It is not recommended to mix oils of different brands. Engine oils of the same type and brand, but of different viscosities, can be mixed if necessary. For example, during the off-season.
