Pic. 1.164. Engine oil dipsticks
When the engine is warmed up to operating temperature and turned off, check the oil level on the dipstick (pic. 1.164).
1. To obtain a correct reading, the vehicle must be on level ground. After turning off the engine, wait a few minutes for the oil to drain back into the engine sump.
2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe, holding the end of the dipstick with a rag.
3. Insert the dipstick again - insert all the way, otherwise the reading will be incorrect.
4. Pull out the dipstick and check the oil level by holding the end of the dipstick with a rag.
If the oil is below or slightly above the low level, add the same type of oil as in the engine.
Remove the oil filler cap and add oil in small portions, checking the level with the dipstick. It is recommended to use a funnel to add oil.
Below for reference is the approximate volume of oil corresponding to the marks between the lower and upper levels on the dipstick.
When the level is normal, reinstall the oil filler cap and tighten by hand.
Oil volume, L (l):
- Engine 1AZ-FE - 1.0
- Engines 2AZ-FE and 1MZ-FE - 1.5
Oil Identification Marking
To facilitate oil selection, some canisters bear one or both of the registered API marks.
The API classification symbol is located on the outside of the canister.
At the top of the label with the help of symbols indicates the quality of the oil according to API classification (American Petroleum Institute - American Petroleum Institute), eg SL. The center of the label indicates the SAE viscosity grade, such as SAE 10W-30. Inscription «Energy-Conserving» at the bottom indicates that the oil has properties that improve fuel efficiency.
ILSAC Certification Mark (International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee - International Committee for the Approval and Standardization of Lubricating Oils) indicated in front of the canister.
Engine oil is suggested to ensure proper engine lubrication «Toyota Genuine Motor Oil» (original Toyota engine oil), which has been specially tested and approved for all Toyota engines.
