Half shaft
1, 3. Mud shields; 2. Right axis; 4. Tie rod end; 5. Cotter pin; 6. Lock washer of the hub nut; 7, 12, 21, 22. Retaining ring; 8, 17. Sealant; 9. Intermediate support bearing; 10. Hinge; 11, 16. Inner shaft; 13, 14. Case; 15. Outer shaft; 18. Dirt deflector; 19. Collar; 20. Lower suspension arm; 23. Locking bolt; 24. Left axle
Removing
1. Remove the half shaft.
2. Clamp the axle shaft in a vise through soft spacers and check for radial play and smooth movement of the hinge in all directions. Replace a worn boot by following the procedures below.
Disassembly
1. Remove the cover clamp by cutting it.
2. Remove the cover from the hinge groove by prying the edge of the cover with a screwdriver. Cut off a severely damaged cover. Remove the boot from the hinge housing and remove the housing.
Attention! An intermediate shaft is fixed on the hinge body on the right axle shaft.
3. Designate the relative position of the hinge cross and the axle shaft.
4. Remove the pivot pin retainer ring.
5. By blows through the brass insert, knock the joint cross off the axle shaft. This is necessary to put on the inner and outer covers on the axle shaft. Do not remove the outer hinge.
6. Remove both covers.
Examination
1. Clean the removed parts, completely remove the old grease, check for damage on the bearing balls. If there are signs of wear on the surface, the mating surfaces will also be damaged. The inner hinges are supplied as spare parts separately, the outer hinges are assembled with the axle shaft.
2. Check up a condition of the bearing of an intermediate support.
Assembly
1. Put the crosspiece on the splines so that the selection on the splines is facing the axle shaft.
2. Put grease into the hinge body, put the body on the crosspiece, put the rest of the grease.
3. Put a cover and clamp on the axle shaft, insert the crosspiece into the body and lay the rest of the grease.
4. Make sure that the edges of the covers are in the grooves on the axle shaft.
5. Adjust axle length (see subsection 8.3.1.), moving the inner joint, set the standard length of the axle shaft.
6. Flatten the boot by inserting a screwdriver between the boot and the outer shell of the hinge.
7. Secure the cover with a clamp using special pliers.
