Ignition coils on a 3.4L V6 engine
Coils are indicated by arrows.
Check and replacement
Contactless ignition system
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Loosen the screws (indicated by arrows).
3. Remove the coil heat shield.
4. Loosen the nuts (indicated by arrows) contacts.
5. Check coil primary circuit resistance (between () And (-) coil leads).
6. Check the resistance of the secondary circuit of the coil (between () And (-) coil leads).
7. If both resistances are out of specification, replace the ignition coil.
8. To replace, label and disconnect the wires.
9. Turn away bolts (indicated by arrows).
10. Remove the coil from the distributor housing.
11. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
DIS system
12. Turn the ignition key to the Off position, disconnect the connectors from the coils.
13. Check the resistance of the coil primary circuit.
14. Check the secondary circuit resistance of the coil.
15. If the resistance is out of specification, replace the ignition coil.
16. To replace, label and disconnect all connectors from the coil.
17. Turn away bolts and remove the coil.
18. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
